Foreteller Causes Upset in Makybe

Sydney gelding Foreteller has rattled home to win the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington on Saturday, edging out Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance De Lune in the final strides of the 1600 metre race.

Both horses came from the tail after a fairly hot pace and Puissance went to the front with about 100 metres left but was just pipped on the line by an in form Foreteller.

Second up after a strong fresh performance in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes a fortnight ago, Forteller started $15 in the Makybe Diva, with all the betting centred around the favourite and Team Williams import Sea Moon.

Sea Moon was never in the race, jumping awkwardly and nearly face planting just after the start, finishing 12th of 14 runners.

Winning jockey Craig Newitt was very happy with the run, and is looking forward to the rest of the Spring.

"It was a really good win, he had to reel off some good times and really tough it out against the grey horse. I think whatever he runs in now he's just going to be so competitive", Newitt said.

Foreteller's trainer Chris Waller watched the race from Randwick, but was very pleased with how the race panned out.

"Today he had the chance to travel, following the right horse in the run...it was good to see him lunge on the post".

Forteller is nominated for all the main staying races in Melbourne. Based on his perfomance on the weekend, he is going to be competitive in whatever he tackles.
