Sincero Breaks Drought In Memsie
It had been almost a year since Sincero had won his last race, but that was quickly forgotten after his impressive win in the Group 2 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
The 5 year old gelding went out $3.60 favourite for the race, and showed a strong turn of foot over the closing stages to power away and win by two lengths. Second went to Happy Trails with Second Effort making up the placings.
The win has seen Sincero rise into the top handful in Cox Plate betting, and trainer Stephen Farley thinks there will be a very good spring ahead of him.
"I could not be happier with the way the horse has been going. You can't get too confident in these races so it was good to see him do it", Farley said".
"When he lets go he doesn't really quicken though, he lengthens."
Sincero raced 3 times in Melbourne last Spring, with his best performance a 5th in the Caulfield Stakes. He could only manage 9th in the Cox Plate but Farley believes on his day, he's good enough to win the prestigious weight for age race.
"When he's right, he's dynamite".
Jockey Michael Rodd was equally impressed with the performance of his galloper.
"I just can't talk highly enough about the horse. He gave me a great feel and looks like being in for a good campaign", Rodd said. Sincero's next run will be in the Underwood Stakes on September 22, also at Caulfield.
Green Moon, who finished fifth in the Memsie, was also an eye catching performance. He made up several lengths in what way an excellent warm up for the Caulfield Cup. The Lloyd Williams owned 6 year old has firmed into favouritism for the 2400m Group 1 race next month.
